Barry Riddiford, a Wiradjuri Elder, grew up in SW Qld on cattle and sheep properties. After working as a station hand, Barry entered tertiary education and graduated as a teacher. Following some years of teaching and principal roles, he then lectured at South Australian University in teacher education. His career continued to follow the education path becoming a Superintendent and then Coordinator of Education in SA Education Dept.
Barry then returned to Townsville as Coordinator of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Support Centre. His next career moves saw him as a District Director of Education in Torres Strait and Emerald districts.
His career then went into Aboriginal Policy with DATSIP for several years in western Qld. Another career change saw him enterer the mining area ending as State Manager, Community and Stakeholder Partnerships with MMG Mining.
Barry now has his own consultancy company providing advice on Native Title, Cultural Heritage, leadership and management matters. Over the past 5 years, he has worked closely with Veterans, currently conducting research on a framework for post-ADF support to at-risk Veterans.
